The government has said the US-Mexico border is at a “breaking point” because of the crowds of Central American families seeking asylum there, though its policies have so far focused on deterrence, instead of responding to the factors driving people to flee Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.
The US should have been working all along to strengthen all the nations of the world such that those nations would not be teeming with people wanting to leave where they are and to travel to live in the US. I don't say that out of any feelings of racism or ethnic bigotry, just the opposite.
Once the places around the world are stable, open borders would be no problem at all but a good thing.
This doesn't mean I oppose war refugees and climate refugees and those seeking political asylum.
My point is that the entire planet would be better off were the entire world to have high standards so everyone would have a high quality of life. It's not only doable but required if we're to survive.
